The search for Kelly Ripa’s new co-host continues, but three front-runners are now out of contention

We now know who won’t be joining Kelly Ripa on “Live!.”

Page Six reports that Mario Lopez, Rob Lowe and Jeff Gordon are no longer being considered for Michael Strahan’s replacement.

Sources indicate that Kelly Ripa and producers on the show are “amused and fed up” with the three front-runners using the potential hosting gig as an opportunity to self-promote. Lowe, Lopez and Gordon have reportedly been talking themselves up to the media and some of them have leaked information that they have been approached to take the seat next to Ripa.

Soon after Strahan announced his departure, Lowe and Gordon’s names were all over the tabloids as the top potential replacements. Lopez also hinted that he already took the job when he appeared on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show.” When DeGeneres brought the rumors up, Lopez said, “I know, people were saying that. I love Kelly.”

“It’s a highly coveted job,” a source said. “There’s no other show where the co-host gets to have their name in the title of the show — you don’t get that kind of prominence. That’s why they’re leveraging [their place in the race]. Just being in the mix is helpful to their careers and reputation. Well, Rob, Jeff and Mario are not getting the job.”

Insiders report that producers on the show are not cool with the three potentials constant boasting and bragging.

“After the whole thing with Michael, [the producers] want someone loyal. They want someone who is going to be in it long-term. They don’t want a self-promoter and to [have to] be doing this whole thing again in a year.”

Fans of “Live!” will remember that Strahan suddenly left the show for a full-time job on “Good Morning America” after spending four years co-hosting with Ripa.

Just because these guys are out of the running doesn’t mean that the search is over. Anderson Cooper and Fred Savage are also reportedly in the running for the job.
