After distress call, Fort Worth cops chip in to buy life-saving device for struggling WWII vet

When 95-year-old World War II veteran Julius Hatley of Fort Worth, Texas, woke up Thursday morning soaked in sweat due to a broken air conditioning unit, he wasn’t sure what to do. Hatley ended up calling 911, and two Fort Worth police officers were dispatched to what was considered a low priority call.

Officers William Margolis and Christopher Weir arrived on scene to find that the temperature was 85 degrees and rising inside the house. Since there wasn’t a way for them to fix the broken window unit, they decided to come up with their own solution to make sure Hatley had a comfortable place to live. …
