Inspector General’s report makes serious allegations against fired deputy FBI director

The 30-page report from the Inspector General of the Justice Department was released Friday and detailed the allegations against former Deputy FBI Director Andrew McCabe that led to his firing.

Here’s what the IG report said

“We concluded that McCabe’s decision to confirm the existence of the [Clinton Foundation] Investigation through an anonymously sourced quote, recounting the content of a phone call with a senior Department official in a manner designed to advance his personal interests at the expense of Department leadership, was clearly not within the public interest exception, Inspector General Horowitz wrote in the report.

The report indicates that McCabe could have reassured the public of the FBI’s objectivity without leaking the information, but rather through releasing a statement about the investigation.

“Had McCabe’s primary concern actually been to reassure the public that the FBI was pursuing the investigation despite the anonymous claims in the article,” the report said, “the way that the FBI and the Department would usually accomplish that goal is through a public statement reassuring the public that the FBI is investigating the matter.”

“Lied on multiple occasions to multiple investigators”

“In October of 2016 there was a report in the Wall Street Journal which talked about the political contributions which had been made to Andrew McCabe’s wife, Dr. Jill McCabe which was for a state Senate race in 2015,” explained Fox News’ Catherine Herridge.

“And she had received from Terry McAuliffe, the Virginia governor, and his PAC at the time upwards of $500,000,” she continued. “This was seen certainly within law enforcement circles and critics of the FBI as evidence that Andrew McCabe had a conflict of interest when it came to the Clinton Foundation probe.”

“So when you look at the leak about the foundation that was kinda his way of awkwardly pushing back that he was
that he was impartial, that he was impartial not only with the email investigation but also with the ongoing investigation of the Clinton Foundation,” she added.

Herridge says according to the IG report that McCabe allegedly “lied on multiple occasions to multiple investigators, first the leak investigators at the FBI, and then following that to his boss Director Comey, he told him he was not the source of this leak to the Wall Street Journal, and then ultimately with the Inspector General as well.”

House Judiciary Committee Chairman Bob Goodlatte (R-Va.) responded to the report saying, “Mr. McCabe repeatedly lied under oath about the disclosure of information to a reporter. In doing so, he not only violated FBI policy, but he may have committed a federal crime.”

“It is unfortunate that Mr. McCabe’s distinguished career at the FBI has ended this way, but it apparent that Attorney General Sessions made the right decision.”
