Democrats and Republicans unite in a touching dedication to Steve Scalise

Republican and Democrat members of Congress kneeled at the second base and prayed in a touching dedication to Rep. Steve Scalise (R-La.) during their annual charity baseball game. Scalise was on the second base when he was injured by a crazed gunman who was trying to kill Republicans Wednesday.

Scalise was an enthusiastic participant in the ballgame – in 2015 he posted pictures from the many times he played in the competition against the Democrats’ team.

The Republicans were on the field practicing the day before the charity game when James T. Hodgkinson opened fire and struck several members of Congress.

Scalise is still in critical condition at Medstar Washington Hospital Center, but an update Thursday indicated that his condition had improved after a second surgery.

In a nation show of support, tickets and donations for the Congressional Ballgame doubled this year, selling more than 20,000 tickets and raising more than $1 million for the charities chosen by the organizers.

Here’s the video of the bipartisan moment of silence and prayer for Rep. Steve Scalise and the other victims.

Donations were raised for the Boys & Girls Club of Greater Washington, Washington Literacy Center, the Washington Nationals Dream Foundation and, in support of Wednesday’s shooting, the Capitol Police Memorial Fund.
