Trump uses age old excuse to explain why he asked Russia to hack Clinton

Like a teenager who got into trouble for calling his sibling an asshole, Donald Trump explained away his request that Russia hack Hillary Clinton and the DNC as a moment when he was simply speaking with “sarcasm.”

In an interview with Fox News on Thursday morning, Trump walked back his comments from the campaign trail about Russia.

“Russia, if you’re listening, I hope you’re able to find the 30,000 emails that are missing,” Trump said this week

“I think you will probably be rewarded mightily by our press. Let’s see that happen.”

According to Trump, those comments were only meant as sarcasm.

“Of course I’m being sarcastic,” Trump said.

“You have 33,000 emails deleted, and the real problem is what was said on the emails from the Democratic National Convention.”

Trump’s comments about Russia soon became a national news story and drew great ire from many in the national security community.

“Trump’s appeal for a foreign government hostile to the United States to manipulate our electoral process is not an assault on Hillary Clinton, it is an assault on the Constitution,”¬†William Inboden, who served in the Bush administration on the National Security Council told Politico.
